New Vision Benefits Available to Uniformed Service Members

For the first time, military families, retirees, and their families, can enjoy vision benefits at their discretion and without a referral through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program, or FEDVIP. These benefits include a comprehensive eye exam and the added bonus of an allowance for frames and contacts. You and your family can now have the vision benefits you deserve, making it just a little easier to manage everyone’s well-being.

For those of you who are retired, enjoy the simplicity of scheduling your annual eye exam on your terms with the financial relief of a frame allowance, should you or anyone in your family have a prescription. For the spouses of our active duty military, you can now check off everyone’s eye exams including your own without adding any referral complexities to your plate.

Who is eligible for FFEDVIP?

The following people can qualify for FEDVIP coverage:

Active and retired uniformed service members
Family of retired service members
Family members of active duty military

In general, retired uniformed service members and their families who were eligible for the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) are eligible for FEDVIP dental coverage and, if enrolled in a TRICARE health plan, FEDVIP vision coverage. In addition, family members of active duty uniformed service members who are enrolled in a TRICARE health plan are eligible for FEDVIP vision coverage. Coverage is effective January 1, 2019, if you enroll during the Federal Benefits Open Season.

When can you enroll in FEDVIP?

The first opportunity to enroll in FEDVIP will be during the next Federal Benefits Open Season, which runs from November 12 through December 10, 2018 (Midnight, EST), with coverage effective January 1, 2019.
