3 Ways to Hack Your Eyeglasses

Glasses are wonderful. They make life easier in so many ways (like reading this blog post!), but they can also get dirty, slip down your face, or be tough to find in the dark.

To make life easier with glasses, we rounded up some #lifehacks you’re gonna wish you knew since the first day you put those lovely specs on your face.

Eyeglasses Hack No. 1: Finding Your Glasses in the Dark

Use glow-in-the-dark paint and apply a small strip on your eyeglass case so you can find it in the middle of the night. You can also find transparent glow-in-the-dark paint to put on your actual glasses. Adding a small strip on the bottom edge of your eyeglass rim will ensure you can find them even outside of their case.

Eyeglasses Hack No. 2: Prevent Your Glasses from Slipping Off Your Nose

Tie a hair tie around the back of the arms of your glasses and adjust them to sit in just the right spot. This will prevent them from slipping. Also, if the ties are similar to your hair color, you won’t even be able to see them.

Eyeglasses Hack No. 3: Preventing Gross Smudges on Your Glasses

Have plenty of microfiber cloths handy! Have one for your wallet, purse, car, bathroom–everywhere! When you order glasses on Eyeconic, we always throw in a few for free. Your eye doctor can hook you up, too.

Microfiber sheets are also available in larger sizes that can be easily cut and stored around your house. Make sure to keep them clean and avoid contact with dust particles and other material that may cause scratches.

And because we couldn’t resist, here are a few major no-nos from the eyewear experts:

  • Please fight the temptation to use your clothes, dishrags, or any other material to clean your glasses. These items are usually filled with particles and dust that will easily scratch your pretty lenses. There is nothing worse than looking through and seeing small lines in your view.
  • Stay far, far away from liquid solutions like ammonia, bleach, vinegar, and especially window cleaner! These liquids can contain chemicals that will strip away the coatings on your glasses. Let’s be clear… those coatings are often crucial for protecting your eyes and eyewear. You can purchase actual eyeglass cleaner online, and usually at your eye doctor. At home, a little warm water and dish soap can do the trick—small circles with your fingertips are the safest bet. Just PLEASE stay away from the dish sponge.
